Bible Credibility

Q: How do I know that the Bible isn’t full of mistakes, since it was written by man?

A: Man did write the Bible but it was written by men inspired by God. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Q: What about all the errors in the bible?

A: The Bible has complicated passages that are difficult to understand, but an error has never been proven and there have been many people who have to discredit the Bible.

23,000 + archaeological digs have been done to try to disprove the Bible, but none have been able to do so.

Q: How do you know the Bible is True?

A: It is a reliable collection of historical documents written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report supernatural events that took place in the fulfilment of specific prophecies, and claim that their writings are Divine rather than human in origin.

It is also the only religious document in existence that provides more than two thousand prophecies that validate its historical claims. These prophecies deal with Jesus Christ, Israel, other nations, cities, and even people.

An example of a prophecy is found in Isaiah 53:3-6 (Note there is also some proofs for the virgin birth and divinity of Christ in this section.)

· This prophecy was written 700 years before the birth of Christ.

· The Old Testament, written hundreds of years before Jesus’ birth, contains over 300 prophecies that Jesus fulfilled through His life, death and resurrection.

· Chance of 1 person fulfilling 8 of these prophecies: 1 in one hundred quadrillion 1 person fulfilling 48 prophecies: 1 chance in 10 to the 157th power 1 person fulfilling 300+ prophecies: Only Jesus!

· Prophecy Isaiah 7:14 – “All right then, the Lord Himself will choose the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call Him Immanuel – ‘God is with us.’”

· Fulfillment of Prophecy Luke 1:34 Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?”

· Mary and the angel had talked about the birth, and the angel later tells her that the birth would be because of the Holy Spirit.

God Credibility

Q: How do you know there is a God?

A: Well, if you look at a painting, there has to have been a painter. If you look at a book, there had to be an author. Common sense proves that painting doesn’t just splatter and become a master piece neither do words form an intelligently written book. Therefore, if there is creation, there has to have been a creator.

Q: How can there be a God when so much evil exists?

A: Man’s sin causes evil. All individuals that don’t accept Christ as their savior will one day face eternal Hell.

After God created all things he said all is very good (Genesis 1:31). He created a perfect world, but through our sin we have destroyed His original design and caused sin and evil to come on this world.

Q: Is there one God or can we all become gods? (Note this question is primarily for answering Mormons).

A: The Bible clearly teaches there is one God.

Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other, I am God, and there is none like me, – Isaiah 46:9

Since there is only God and no other, then we cannot become gods or anything like that. There is one God, three persons. The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Q: Does God Exist?

A: For anything to exist it must have a creator or builder. For example, if you are reading a book, then you know someone had to write it. If you see a building, then you know someone built it.

Creation screams that God exists. If a book couldn’t write itself, then why would I think that the universe could create itself. If you say there is no God, then you are forced to believe the scientific impossibility that nothing created everything.

Q: How could an all-powerful, all-loving God allow evil to exist?

A: “It is critically important to examine the assumptions within a question.”

– C.S. Lewis

If you say there is evil, then aren’t you saying there is such a thing as good?

If you say there is good then aren’t you saying you have a moral law to tell the difference between good and evil?

If you say there is a moral law, then there must be a moral lawgiver. Your question assumes there is a God because without a moral lawgiver we wouldn’t have a moral law, without a moral law we wouldn’t know the difference between good and evil.

Your question is ultimately self-defeating.

Jesus Credibility

Argument: There is no proof Jesus existed.

Response: What year is it? 2020. 2020 years since what?

Josephus and Tacitus both said Jesus existed. Josephus was the greatest Jewish historian and Tacitus a Roman historian, neither were Christians and had no reason to lie.

Q: Was Jesus really God or was He created? (Note that this question is primarily for answering Jehovah Witnesses).

A: Yes, the Bible clearly teaches that Jesus is God.

I and the Father are one. – John 10:30

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. – John 1:1

Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am. – John 8:58

Note that Jesus uses the term I am (Yahweh) clearly referencing Himself as Lord

This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. – John 5:18

Q: How do you know that Christ rose from the dead?

A: The empty tomb is one proof of the resurrection. It was highly guarded by the best soldiers in the world at that time, who most likely would have been killed for failure at their job. Stealing it would have been impossible. All the leaders of the day would have had to do is produce the body to crush Christianity, they couldn’t do this.

The slight differences in the accounts of the disciples regarding the resurrection indicate authenticity and not error. If they all mirrored each other perfectly then this would be a sign of collusion. Retired Los Angeles Police Department cold-case detective J. Warner Wallace, who specializes in evaluating eyewitness testimony, evaluated the validity of the Gospel accounts and stated that they were completely reliable eyewitness accounts of the resurrection.

The resurrection was preached shortly after it occurred. The empty tomb was common knowledge amongst the people and was not disputed.

Jesus bodily appeared to over 500 witnesses.

Other Credibility

Argument: Religion has caused too many wars.

Response: Actually 92% of wars were secular in nature leaving only 8% as religious wars.

Which basically means that the question is defeated by the statistics.
