As we all know, Mother’s Day has just passed and we celebrated thankfulness for our dear Mothers’ who brought us into this crazy world. Our Mothers’ have to deal with our murmuring and complaining everyday so when Mother’s Day comes around, naturally we try to put on our best behavior and do our best to not complain because it is their special day. But do we not realize that when we are complaining to them, we are in actuality complaining to God as well? God hears our every word and thought. He is listening and it grieves him to hear you complain. He has given you so much and it is taken for granted so easily.

In 1 Timothy 6:6-8  it says “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.” Here it clearly says that we are to be content with what God has given us. Life is not going to be perfect because no one is perfect, except God himself. When Jesus came to this earth, he suffered trials, tribulations, hunger, and so much more. But not once did he complain. He knew that God would provide everything he needed at the right time. And that is true for us as well. God will provide everything we need in His time. Now this certainly does not mean that we will get everything that we want but that everything that we need will be provided. Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

1 Corinthians 10:10 states “Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.” And in Ephesians 4:29 it says “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” Complaining is deadly to your soul. The scriptures are clearly saying that it will eventually destroy you. Is this what we want to happen to us? Surely it is not. If we are always complaining, what does this say about our character? What do you think non-Christians will think of this behavior? Do we not want to be different from them; a light? Do you really want people to see you as an ungrateful complainer who is not thankful for the things God has given to you? Complaining can ruin someone’s character instantly.

We meet new people all the time. Whether it is just going to the grocery or meeting new friends at school or church, everyone gets a first impression. That first impression is a lasting one and will remain with a person for the rest of their lives. It might seem crazy and a little out of this world that you could actually meet someone you saw in the grocery store again, but you don’t know when, where, or how you might meet these people again. God works in mysterious ways. Always be on your best behavior. Philippians 2:14-16 “Do all things without murmurings or disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.”

As you go about your daily lives this week, try to remember not to complain and to be more thankful for what you have. God has given us so much to enjoy and we often take that for granted. Come to him in prayer if you have a need or want. He will listen. He is a caring, all-knowing, and an all-powerful God who is waiting for you to come to him. Philippians 4:6 says, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

  1. This is an incredible post! It reminds me so much of what a friend and I are studying in the Book of Genesis about God’s continual provision for His children.

Another thing I love about this is the challenge to not complain… That in itself had changed me and it is inspiring and encouraging. Complaining is unbiblical and what you wrote in this post is so truthful. Thank you!

  2. Thank you so much, Ellen! That is SO true. There are so many things that we have that we don’t appreciate enough. Thanks for the reminder that we always have something to be grateful for. 😀

    Praising Him,
